Heron Tower Standby Power

At 755ft tall Heron tower is one of London’s newest and tallest office towers. Can you imagine the climb if the power were to fail. Of course there are standby generators and it was ECS that designed, built and commissioned the control system that looks after all of the incoming electrical power and it distribution around the building.
With the generators on the 42nd floor and the incoming power at basement level 3, 11,000 volt power is fed up the building during normal running but down the building when the power fails and the generators take over.
As the distances involved are so long, the control system panels needed to communicate over the latest fibre optic Ethernet protocols.
